At the National Copyright Social Service Work Meeting held on October 28, Yan Xiaohong, Vice-Commissioner of the National Copyright Administration of China (NCAC) said that notable achievements had been made in the copyright-related social service work nationwide in the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” period, with the capability effectively enhanced in relation to creation, application, protection and administration of copyright in the period, as remarkably shown by the constantly increased percentage of contribution made by the copyright industry to the national economy and by the new record of the number of the recorded copyrights in China.

It is revealed that, with the copyright-related social service system having been basically put in place and further amplified, and with the copyright-related pioneering work now in full swing, the copyright industry has been further integrated and developed. The findings of the survey conducted by the China Press and Publication Research Institute entrusted by the NCAC in relation to the percentage of contribution made by the copyright industry to the national economy in the past corresponding years showed that the copyright industry had been constantly contributing more to the national economy, amounting to 6.87% of the China’s GDP.

Additionally, new achievements have been made in terms of constantly increased number, reaching more than a million, of recorded copyrights, including copyrights recorded in respect of works, computer software, and copyrights pledged in China. To be specific, the total number of recorded copyrighted works reached 2,830,169 from 2011 to 2014, representing an increase by 47.6%compared with that of those recorded in the Eleventh Five-Year Plan period. Up to date, there have been recorded, in China, a total of 689,781 copyrighted works, 191,952 pieces of computer software, 328 pledged copyrights, totaling 882,061, thus keeping the momentum of the rapid development under way in recent years and breaking the historical record in terms of copyrights recorded.
